Michigan Farmland Preservation vs. Development Pressure

Michigan loses tens of thousands of acres of farmland annually to development. The Michigan Agricultural Preservation Fund uses USDA matching grants to purchase development rights from farmers who want to keep land in agriculture. But the fund is significantly oversubscribed.
